Trina Bennett LCSW-C
I started my professional journey at the University of Pittsburgh where I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology, Masters degree in Social Work and a certificate in Women’s Studies. During my field education, I had the privilege to work and learn with children, adolescents and adults in the community outpatient clinic, partial hospital and inpatient hospital. I graduated in 2004 and have enjoyed the incredible opportunity to continue helping children, adolescents, adults and families in both the office and school settings.
Over the years, I have expanded my knowledge and experience, working with many wonderful individuals who struggled with various life challenges, including but not limited to anxiety, anger, mood fluctuations, trauma, self-injury, low self-esteem, bereavement, stress, parenting and difficulty adjusting to life transitions. Although people can have similar symptoms, their experiences and needs are unique to them. That is why I practice under an eclectic, strengths-based approach, utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques to help people more comfortably express their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. When working with children, I incorporate the use of therapeutic play, art, crafts, and behavioral techniques to help them express their emotions, build insight, and learn healthy coping tools. My work with adolescents and adults involves a deeper focus on aligning the physical, emotional and spiritual health of the individual through talk therapy, EMDR, cognitive-behavioral techniques, identifying healthy coping tools and utilizing relaxation methods. In June 2012, I received my certificate in Advanced Trauma Treatment Level I from The Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy Training and Education, Inc. I received my training in EMDR through The Counseling Center, an EMDRIA approved training program, in 2022. During the summer months of 2022, I received my Grief Educator Certificate through David Kessler, Inc. and Grief.com. In 2023, I attended trainings in I-CBT methods to help clients build a new tool set for anxiety thinking and in DBT so that I can be informed to help clients who have come from a DBT background or are currently attending DBT groups. Additionally, I completed my certificate as a Grief Movement Guide through Paul Denniston's Grief Yoga Program.
I truly enjoy talking with people and helping them realize their own potential as they take steps toward reaching their personal goals. I am accepting new clients in my practice, many times can offer same week appointment times, and have appointment ranging from late morning to early evening.
